Chartered Tours

A 3-day, 2-night charter tour from Bellingham to Sucia Island, run in partnership with Island Opportunity Charters. Unlike our paddle-out expeditions, this trip starts with a boat charter to the islands, so you arrive rested and ready to explore rather than paddling the crossing yourself. We can also charter to Jones, Matia, or Patos Island by request, and extend the trip to 4 days, 3 nights for groups who want more time on the water.

Once we land, we unload gear and kayaks and settle in for a weekend of guided day paddles around the surrounding islands, discovering hidden coves, quiet beaches, and local wildlife. Routes and destinations are worked out with the group based on everyone's experience level and preference, and adjusted for weather to give you the best experience each day. All meals are fully catered throughout the trip.

3 days, 2 nights (4 days, 3 nights available) · Charter departs Bellingham · Group size: 4-8 · Lower fitness level okay, shorter paddling distances · $1,139 per person, plus tax

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from your other multi-day trips?
This trip starts with a boat charter from Bellingham, run with our partner Island Opportunity Charters, rather than paddling out. Once on the island, the trip is guided kayak day paddles around the surrounding area.

Which islands can we visit?
Sucia Island is our main destination, and we can also charter to Jones, Matia, or Patos Island by request.

Can we extend the trip?
Yes. This has been a popular request, so we now offer a 4-day, 3-night version for an extra $299 per person, plus tax, on top of the standard rate.

Do I need to be in great shape for this trip?
No. Since the charter gets you to the island, this trip involves shorter paddling distances than our paddle-out expeditions and works for a slightly lower fitness level. Exact routes and distances are worked out with the group based on everyone's experience.

Do the routes change based on weather?
Yes. Your guide adjusts the day paddle routes depending on conditions, so every trip is a little different.

Where do we sleep?
We camp at designated campgrounds on whichever island you're visiting.

What's included?
The charter to and from the island, guiding, kayak and gear, camping, and all meals throughout the trip. Personal gear like tents, sleeping bags, and pads isn't included, but a limited number are available to rent for an additional charge, same as our Lummi and Cypress Island trips.

Can I bring extra personal items, like a pillow?
Yes. Since this trip is chartered rather than paddled, we have much more room for gear than our paddle-out expeditions, so feel free to bring extra comfort items like a pillow, an extra layer, or camp chairs. We provide all food-related gear and shared camping gear like lighting and hammocks, though we don't have enough hammocks for everyone, so bring your own if you want to guarantee one.

Is there a single-day option?
Yes. We also run a non-overnight day trip to Sucia Island for groups who want a shorter island paddle without an overnight stay. That trip is $439 per person, plus tax.

How much does it cost?
$1,139 per person, plus tax, for the standard 3-day, 2-night trip. The extended 4-day, 3-night version is an additional $299 per person, plus tax. Gratuity isn't included but is appreciated.
