Bioluminescence Tour

Come experience magic in the water. Glide through an ocean of stars under the night sky, watching light dance around your boat and streak beneath the water like shooting stars riding on the backs of fish.

This is a 2-hour tour, with 1 to 1.5 hours actually on the water. It's a short, immersive paddle focused on the bioluminescence itself, not a long-distance tour. Timed around the new moon for the darkest skies and best visibility. Meeting time is about 15-30 minutes after sunset, so exact times shift with the season, check the calendar for current dates.

A few things to know before you book: this is a late-night paddle in the dark, and safety is our top priority. Distance and route depend on conditions that night, your guide may keep the group closer to shore rather than paddling farther out if that's the safer call. Kids are welcome at your discretion, but we don't recommend bringing children under 12.

Scheduled on new moon weekends, and available by special request for groups of 6 or more on other dates.

Group size: 6+ (by request) · 2 hours total, ~1-1.5 hrs on water · New moon weekends · Bellingham, WA

Frequently Asked Questions

How far do we paddle, and how much time is actually on the water?
This tour runs 2 hours total, with 1 to 1.5 hours on the water. It's designed as a short, focused paddle to experience the bioluminescence up close, not a long-distance tour. Exact distance depends on conditions that night.

Why isn't the paddling time longer?
The tour is built around giving you real time in the glow itself, in the dark, at a relaxed pace, rather than covering distance. The remaining time is safety briefing, gear-up, and getting on and off the water.

Why is this tour scheduled around the new moon?
Bioluminescence is easiest to see in complete darkness, so we time this tour to the darkest skies of the month.

Is this tour safe? What if conditions are rough?
Guide safety is our top priority on every night paddle. Your guide assesses conditions before and during the tour and may keep the group closer to shore rather than paddling farther out if that's the safer call that night.

Can I bring my kids?
Kids are welcome at your discretion, but we don't recommend children under 12 given the late hour and darkness.

What time does the tour start?
Meeting time is roughly 15-30 minutes after sunset, so it shifts with the season. Check the calendar for the exact time on your date.

What's included?
Kayak, paddle, safety gear, and a guide for the full trip.
